Sara and Winston’s love story began in college — one of those age-old stories that grows steadily over time. When their wedding day arrived high above the city at Manhatta, it felt less like the start of something new and more like the honoring of something deeply rooted and timeless. Their day was soft and lovely under overcast skies, and then became effortlessly swanky and jazzy once the sun set over New York City.
Sara stepped into her Danielle Frankel gown and added the lovely touch of a hand-painted veil (also by Danielle Frankel) atop her head as the morning light wrapped everything in a calm glow. Sara chose to spend the morning intimately getting ready, without bridesmaids, which made for no rush and no excess. There was just so much intention behind each detail of the day. When she met Winston on the street for their first look before saying “I do,” time stood still, even in the midst of yellow taxis and busy pedestrians whizzing by. They strolled through the streets of lower Manhattan for portraits, capturing the essence of their life together in NYC. Sixty stories higher, the ceremony took place, overlooking the city from floor to ceiling windows. Their vows were tender and emotional in a way that felt intimate, even in a room full of people who cried and cheered for them.
Then the night fell and the city came alive, transforming the entire space to a party in the sky. Oysters sourced from the groom’s hometown were served during cocktail hour, and candlelight flickered against the windows as the skyline glittered in the distance. As the trumpets began to blare, the energy shifted. It was still elegant, but it came alive. I moved between digital and Super 8 film, capturing it all, including the pops of red details as well as the blur of the dance floor.
Even though their wedding was sixty stories high, Sara and Winston’s love story was one of the most grounded and tender I have ever experienced. This wedding was everything I love about New York City weddings: thoughtfully detailed, and grand, yet intimate. I would love to be a part of your wedding day in New York City. Let’s get to know each other better.
