I approach a wedding the way a journalist approaches a feature. Before a wedding arrives, I invest time getting to know the people at its center. I adore learning about their history and their affection. It sharpens my instincts and builds trust, so when the wedding begins, nothing feels forced or unfamiliar. I'm able to blend into the background, like an old friend you've known for ages.
On a wedding day, I watch how people gather, and follow the natural momentum. I never manufacture moments or rearrange the truth. Of course, there's always room for portraits with a touch of artful flair. To me however, the most meaningful photographs (& my personal favorites) reveal themselves when no one is performing. I photograph the full arc, from grand crescendo to quiet exhale.
