Franzi and Markus’s elopement was emotional, spontaneous, and authentic. From the moment I met them, I could feel the love and excitement in the air. They live in Germany and made the trip across the sea to elope in Brooklyn. Franzi and Markus have spent much time there, and it’s a very special place to both of them.
This sweet couple asked me to be there to capture every moment of the day, from getting ready in Harlem to a walk in Domino Park, so I was with them, sharing in the joy. As the last touches were added, there was nervousness and excitement, and the energy was infectious. The second Markus’s eyes met Franzi in her dress, all the love in the world was reflected right there in that moment.
As we made our way to city hall, we laughed and shared stories. It was setting in that they were getting married, and the gravity of the moment was palpable. Franzi and Markus said “I do” in city hall, and afterwards, we celebrated with french fries from a food truck…my kind of celebration! A phone call home to tell their families the good news was so sweet as they felt it all sinking in.
We then headed to Brooklyn, and the day just kept getting better. There were so many cosmic, momentous, and meant-to-happen moments that day, and it was such an honor to be there to document it all. I spontaneously took them to the Marcy Avenue stop, which had so much meaning to them (which I didn’t even know) so we took some photos by the subway there. We also passed by a bike shop, and because Markus and Franzi are both pro cyclists, we had to stop & get a few snaps!
We drank a brown bag beer, explored the grungy brownstone steps and hit our last stop: Domino Park. It was the perfect spot for the industrial, urban shots. At the end of the day, we were all talking and walking, and Markus just pulled Franzi into his arms and kissed her by the waterfront. It was a beautiful moment, and it was clear that they truly and authentically love each other.
